One and one and one is three.
Everything should be like hockey, and have it’s own plus/minus score. Take the Tampa Tribune’s attempt to balance a newspaper and keep up on the latest trends, for instance:
-
Plus 1: An editorial in today’s Tribune points to excellent use of a website by the county appraiser’s office.
Minus 1: The link in the online version incorrectly attempts to send you to http://http://www.hcpafl.org/
Plus 1: More staffers are keeping weblogs on their TBO site.
Minus 1: They are mostly lame, and probably only link to advertisers.
Minus 1: I realized yesterday that the Tampa Tribune eventually removes its stories from the web. So in two months, that first link above will get you a 404, and then you’ll have to search their archives and pay $1.95 to read the old article. Damn.
Minus 1: Pop up ads.
So they end up with a -2, just like Alexei Yashin and Mario Lemieux
By the way, I really recommend checking out the county appraiser’s website. The Trib’s right in saying it’s really very helpful and easy to use.
