I get knocked down, but I get up again
Congratulations are in order to Tampa’s own Antonio Tarver. Two months after St. Pete’s Winky Wright earned the championship belts in the Super Welterweight class, Tarver knocked out Pensacola’s Roy Jones Jr. in the 2nd round Saturday night, to take the WBC Light Heavyweight title. Jones, who has been called “pound-for-pound” the best boxer in the world, was the favorite in this fight, but was simply outmatched by Tarver. It was Tarver’s 7th punch that did the damage, knocking Jones to the canvas. He was still reeling as the ten-count finished. Is Tampa Bay becoming a champion fighter breeding ground? Congrats again to ‘Magic Man’ Antonio Tarver.
