City employees get paid to help kids read. This is ridiculous. It’s nice that we want to help out, but I have a couple of problems with this. How qualified are these helpers? Why isn’t the school doing it’s job? Why aren’t the PARENTS doing their job? If a child cannot read at their grade level, it is the school’s duty to inform the parents. And it is the parents responsibility to get the extra tutelage, not the city.
