Times Columnist Ernest Hooper says he heard Jack Harris. But most likely, he read it right here. Anyway, he agrees that Nebraska Av. should be renamed after Ray Charles. I support this effort 100%. Since finding out why the road was named Nebraska, I really don’t think the current name fits here. No one would be offended by changing it. We’re always changing street names around here. Parts of Grand Central and Lafayette were changed to John F. Kennedy Blvd. Buffalo Av. was changed to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. The Crosstown Expressway was renamed the Lee Roy Selmon. There is an effort to rename Spruce St./Boy Scout Rd./Columbus Av. after Ronald Reagan. Further, due to Charles’ affection for recreational drugs and women, there’s not a better street to name him for than Nebraska. And what’s more, the prostitutes don’t care if you call them “Charles Blvd. Hookers,” or “Nebraska Av. Ho’s,” just as long as you pay ‘em.
