The City of Tampa along with the Downtown Partnership released their vision of downtown (Trib article, Times story). Justin correctly notes that there have several very similar attempts since 1976. We’ll see how it pans out this time. Rachel has opinions on the new building for the Museum of Art, and activity in downtown in general. She does not like the Channelside and Centro Ybor complexes. I don’t think the one in Ybor was a good idea, but I don’t mind Channelside. Centro Ybor replaced buildings that were in use and working. Channelside was desolate, so someone had to put together a place for shops to set up.

Anyway, the Riverwalk, the Arts District, the North Franklin Café district, and a proper use for Central Park are good ideas, but at some point someone has to DO something. The incoming residential developments are something. Retail will follow. And “mixed income” residential is a wonderful idea, but I can not wrap my head around how that would work.
