free lunch

Wifey is an amazing person, and I love her with all my heart. In fact, she is the main reason that I am able to experience so many different things. I wouldn’t want to live without her. But she is a radio wh ore. You see, over the past year she has won a lot of free tickets from various radio stations. Because of her unmatched ability to accurately and rapidly dial a phone, we’ve gotten to see a number of national acts for the cost of parking. Throughout 2004, we’ve seen The Cure, Earth, Wind & Fire, 311, David Bowie, The Roots, Linkin Park/Korn/Snoop Dogg, Boston, Toby Keith, and OzzFest. That’s not much, you say? How about free dinner at Channelside, $25 gift certificate at a day spa, $100 for answering the Nearly Impossible Question (Wifey spent that), Cypress Gardens, Shark Tales movie tickets, movie and dinner in Centro Ybor, Van Halen (two pair!), and a multi-prize gimmick consisting of a 12 pack of Icehouse, a nice Icehouse shirt and George Thoroughgood tickets. Oh, and we got to see Mamma Mia. Unfortunately, the one show Wifey wanted to see got postponed, then cancelled. I knew some of the shows would be damn good, and some I went only because they were free. She gave away admissions to other events. We can’t even remember all of them, so the above list is incomplete. This streak of hers is truly uncanny. So what? Well I was sent a reminder from one of the radio station conglomerates. In the mail recently, she got a 1099-MISC from Cox Radio. I gotta claim it on my income taxes! Damn them.
