With that “Logic” I take it you are against Rail transit in the Bay Area too because the people commuting back and forth from rail stations would cause more traffic than if they were commuting back and forth in general? :p

I realize what the point of a ferry between the two would be for, although I don’t see it ever happening. All I think it would accomplish is tying up traffic more in another place.

Well the only way a ferry would be of use to you if you live in downtown tampa and want to go to downtown st pete or vice versa. There is no transport once you get off the ferry. While it is true that many people commute from st pete to tampa every day it is a very small number who are simply commuting between downtowns. The trolley was only ever concieved as a tourist attraction. Realt mas transit has to move people between their homes and their jobs and neither of these choices offers that to more than a very few people.

Gonzo, you’re missing the point to this…

It’s not supposed to serve as a tourist attraction – it’s actually supposed to make it easier to cross the bay. I mean people commute between Tamap and St. Pete every day and sit in traffic. They’re supposed to be content with that?

But then again, if Bay area residents can’t see past the water as a tourist attraction , maybe a ferry isn’t a good thing for TB…. just like the Trolley is proving not to be a good thing in Tampa because fo it’s tourist attraction marketing, etc.

I think a better idea would be a high-speed ferry between Clearwater and New Orleans.

Outside of hurricane season of course.
