go use someone else’s sidewalks
Apparently, Tampa’s well-to-do don’t want us regular folk anywhere near their properties. Bayshore residents continue to fight a planned sidewalk along the southbound side of the boulevard. After hearing from her task force and because Bayshore elitists don’t want traffic lights, slower speeds or crosswalks, Mayor Pam settled for sidewalks on that side of the road. Residents didn’t like that, either, so she settled on getting some of the walkway done this year: from Bay to Bay to Howard. But now some genteel folks at Bayshore Diplomat Condominiums say the sidewalks might “create a hazard,” so the portion north of Rubideaux Street has been postponed. The very people speeding down Bayshore (40% of speeders are residents) don’t want any of “those people” getting in their way.
That’s how things work: Create a task force. Whittle all recommendations down to about one fifth. Offer some small solace. Chop that down to one-sixth of the need (check the map!), then someone will come along and cut THAT down by two thirds, leaving you with less than 1.1% of a project (plus a task force and additional meetings). Ay Carumba!
I say they should put up a footbridge, blocking the view of the bay. And relocate the amphitheatre to the neighborhood.

Hey, Bayshore residents would probably like some way to restrict access to the Bayshore “Linear Park” (as it is now called). Maybe an implant chip that proves that you make at least $100,000/year. Can’t have the riff-raff spoiling their fun.

I guess the Bayshore people don’t want the common people contaminating their area with cooties.
