seminole heights, the blog
Seminole Heights is what you might call a hyper-local blog, focusing only on a single neighborhood within Tampa. The writer, David Scott Banghart notes almost only stuff pertinent to a small, defined geographical community. Some of the stuff on the website will only appeal to you if you live over there. But oftentimes Banghart’s posts address city- and county-wide news items and the direct effects on his particular neighborhood. Check these recent entries:
I wish there were more blogs around here like Seminole Heights. Imagine one or two bloggers from every neighborhood, focusing on issues important to that smallest of communities. Then perusing each of these blogs and finding common issues among them, encouraging individuals with similar ideals to contact each other and effect change throughout the entire city or county. Or country.

Thanks!
I think that is how Rachel started with her blog, where she focused on SoHo, before she changed it over to Midnight Culmination.
Doing a blog with this type focus provides the blogger with a niche others won’t have.
It is also a way of focusing news media coverage on issues in the neighborhood. The neighborhood reporters for the Tribune and St. Times read my blog and get story ideas from it. The more news about my neighborhood the better.
There is also more of a connection between my blog and the neighborhood activism, as it is so local.
As you said, I would love to read things about other local neighborhoods and how things affect them, unfiltered by news media contraints. East Tampa, Sulphur Springs, West Tampa, North Tampa, Lutz and etc.

I’ll try to post more about Ybor, once I get more involved with the community.
