which way the wind blows

I got plenty of responses for my “rate tampa” post last week. That’s encouraging. So, naturally I’m going to screw it all up, in an attempt to turn it into a weekly feature.

With Hurricane Dennis dominating the local news stations last weekend, meteorologists were in the forefront (not to mention putting in all that OT). Here’s my question for you: Who is your favorite local meteorologist?

    Paul Delagato.

Probably because I just trust Channel 13 more than the other weather centers. That’s nto saying that they are as good at predicting but I mean it’s the house that Leep built, right?

I can’t stand Dick Fletcher and the guy with the suspenders on 28…. And there is such a large staff at WFLA… I think their VIPIR is more trustworthy than their Meteorologists.

I would bring up the Bay News Nine team but reporting the weather every ten minutes gives them sorta an unfair edge in both the accuracy and annoyance factors.

  2. Mike Says:

Dan Noah, Warning Coordination Meteorologist for the Tampa NWS at Ruskin. Just the facts, no fluff, no ponchos in the rain, no weather terrorism.

Available only on the net and only for those who want the real story without adverts.

  3. CT Says:

Whichever one tells me it’s gonna be bright, sunny and rain-free that day. ;)

Seriously, I don’t watch the local news — too much fluff to be worth my time. So no one.

    Steve Jerve and Viper!

    John Winter.
He tries his best to just tell you the weather. Though, channel 8’s weather coverage seems to be the most “technical” in nature of all the rest. Plus they were the first in the area to install the mighty VIPIR!!!!

  6. C Burgess Says:

TV? None. Have to go online with NWS Tampa, Nat’l Hurricane Center. Check out Central FL Hurricane Ctr this time of year too.

  7. Marc Says:

Steve Jerve. Some of the others seem breathless with excitement whenever a named storm appears in the Atlantic. Remember - most people consider hurricanes a BAD thing…

  8. Brett Says:

I’ve met Roy Leep. Did some work for him in his condo on Bayshore. In one word: creepy. There was no sign of Scud the weather dog anywhere.

I’d also have to toss my hat in for the Channel 8 team. Whenever I see the weathermen for the other stations, it’s almost like they’re excited because they get extra time in front of the camera. The 8 team seems to be all business, despite some of the ridiculous claims their advertising dept. came up with after last year’s slew of storms.

And now everybody’s got VIPIR now, don’t they?

  9. thegax Says:

All VIPIR all the time… except for 10 which has “Vortex”. And the one time I saw Dick Fletcher using the thing, he seemed like he wanted nothing to do with it.

TV? Don’t have time for it. Besides everybody at work watches the golf channel! In this instance I would wake the Bay News 9 Team any day. So NOAA, Baynews9.com, and everyonce in a while I poke my head out of the office to see for myself. Provided the boss isn’t looking!

  11. John Says:

    Brett — Scud died.

  12. Russell Says:

I’d have to say… bring back Cliff Michaelsen. He was the ultimate professional and actually experienced the weather instead of making calls from inside an office.
