can’t leave without it

I like this Thursday evening question thing. It gives me a respite from all the crazy things the city and county do. You may recall two weeks ago I asked you to rate your satisfaction of living in the Tampa area. Seventeen people responded, and thirteen of those ranked living in Tampa Bay from 1 to 10. With 1 being “can’t wait to get out of this place” and 10 being “I love it here and will never leave,” the average of the thirteen is just over 7.3, while the median is 7.5

Only two ranked living here a five or less, although another commenter states “I won’t be retiring here.” Six of those leaving a score went with 8 or higher, including one perfect ten.

On to the new one:

Your friends or family are coming to Tampa Bay from out of state. What’s the one thing you tell them they cannot miss while visiting here (besides this blog, of course)?

My mother and 3 year old brother are coming to visit soon and I’ll be taking them on a Dolphin Cruise from the St Pete Pier. You see a dolphin or it’s free :)

That’s funny, because I just had two friends here for a week, my first visitors since moving here from Ohio. So I asked myself that exact question.

Honestly, I think that St. Pete Beach is the nicest thing we have going for us here. It’s a gorgeous beach and there’s all sorts of interesting activities down there.

Tampa Theatre - it is so cool!

I’m also going to have to go with Tampa Theatre. The first time you sit in that theater, tilt your head back and look at the starry ceiling and the beautiful architecture is an amazing experience. Better than the movie itself, no matter what it is!

I often take my visitors either to Fort DeSoto beach for the beach folk(they are amazed at how prestine and beautiful and keep raving about it) or Tampa Theater for the artsy folk, and I keep hearing about that one too!

Me, of course. But if you want a place, I’d say Tampa Theater is near the top of my list.

I like to take visitors to Ybor City at night on the weekend. It’s actually more weird than Bourbon Street, N.O.. Where else can you see an attractive young lady with a tatoo of “the Rock” on her arm. You can get soul food and Greek food. You have disco and goth. You can get mugged, score dope, see penis pillows and gothic statuaries in store front windows, shop for moldy clothes and vinyl, ride a trolley to the port of Tampa, and drink like a fish.

I have never even heard of Tampa Theatre! Yikes!

Clearwater Beach in the afternoon / evening with the new toursit stuff. Of course I also would warn about traffic getting out there.

  10. tim Says:

actually, clearwater beach is an excellent choice, because you can give them the tour of Clearwater’s Scientology-imposed misery.

Big Top Flea Market and Suitcase City. The corner of Fowler and Nebreaska rules!

Oh Cheese is Christ!!!! The rest of you are hooked on sandburn and make this place sound like the most boring place on earth.

My friend showed me around UT (Univ Tampa) when I first came here and I thought it was pretty cool. No necessarily a tourist attraction but the spires are neat to look at.
