For Wade Boggs upcoming induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame, the Tribune is publishing all kinds of Boggs- and baseball-related stories. Sunday’s report included a list of all Hillsborough County players that have made it to the Major Leagues.

Even if you are not a big fan of baseball, you know Al Lopez, Lou Piniella, and Tony LaRussa are from the area. You probably also heard of Steve Garvey, Wade Boggs, Dwight Gooden, and Fred McGriff, too. You may even have been aware that Gary Sheffield, Kenny Rogers, Tino Martinez, Carl Everett, Luis Gonzalez, and Derek Bell all hail from Hillsborough County. That makes thirteen. The newspaper lists 64 kids that went from Tampa ballfields to the major leagues. Sixty four! I didn’t realize there were that many.

    It would be especially fitting if Wade Boggs day coincided with the Trop’s numerous Dollar Beer nights.
