we need bigger signs
tommyMayor Pam unveiled some new “Welcome to Tampa” signs. The signs claim we are the “City of Champions,” noting the local teams’ Super Bowl, Stanley Cup, and Arena Bowl wins. I guess accomplishments by the Rowdies, Brooke Bennett, and Antonio Tarver don’t deserve mention.
Of course there are other cities that lay claim to the “City of Champions” title. Google the phrase for 16,000 entries. There are 45 recent claims in Google News!

If we open up the door for the Rowdies championships from the 70’s, then we risk letting Philly brag about the 76′ers winning the NBA title in 1983. I don’t think any of us wants that now do we?

I did not know that Tarver and Wright were from here. That’s pretty cool. I’ve been a fan of those guys for a while, and now have even more reason for it.
