Jeff Lacy could have made a million dollars fighting Robin Reid in Las Vegas. Instead Lacy only earned $150,000 so the fight could be held in Tampa. Sticks of Fire thanks “Left Hook” for reppin’ the TPA.
There’s a bonus for us. Today, Joe DeGuardia announced Tampa’s Antonio Tarver will fight Pensacola’s Roy Jones Jr. on Oct. 1 at the St. Pete Times Forum.
DeGuardia, Tarver’s promoter said “Tampa has a beautiful boxing venue and great fan support… It’s a Florida fight and Tampa is the best place for it. Tampa has hosted three Super Bowls, the NCAA Final Four, and it’s the perfect city for such a big event.”
How about that! All these local champions helping to give our area a little publicity.
Fight Night is October 1, 2005.
I’ll update with more links tomorrow.

Ooh, ooh! I have been trying to get “reppin’ the TPA” to catch on forever! Has it?! Finally?!
It’s like I can’t anybody to toss around any hot-n-poppin’ TPA phrases! I remember Braick City-this, and Illtown-that, but, here, it’s just . . .Sticks of Fire! Ha!

Wow. This is exciting. I’ve never attended a real fight (save for some low-class junk up in Toledo) but I’ll definitely have to make a trip to this. I can’t believe we’re hosting it! Tarver-Jones Jr. will be the fight of the year. Maybe.
As far as catchphrases, I’ve been rocking “rolling down the BBD” since I moved here, and have yet to hear anyone repeat it, but that’s probably due to the fact anyone who says it, including me, sounds like an absolute idiot. Not to mention the suburban-types who share my BBD commute aren’t the kind who use catchphrases anyway.
