Tampa boxing redux with links

Update of an item from last night:

Jeff Lacy could have made a million dollars whipping up on Robin Reid in Las Vegas. Instead Lacy only took $150,000 so the fight could be held in Tampa. Sticks of Fire thanks “Left Hook” for reppin’ the TPA*. We also thank Reid for coming all this way just to get beat up (wear the t-shirt!).

There’s a bonus for us. Tuesday, Joe DeGuardia announced Tampa’s Antonio Tarver will fight Pensacola’s Roy Jones Jr. on Oct. 1 at the St. Pete Times Forum. Tarver won the last match, and this will be the third fight between them.

On having the match in Tampa, Tarver’s promoter DeGuardia says:

Tampa has a beautiful boxing venue and great fan support… It’s a Florida fight and Tampa is the best place for it. Tampa has hosted three Super Bowls, the NCAA Final Four, and it’s the perfect city for such a big event.

How about that! All these local champions (Winky, Lacy, Tarver) helping to give our area some pub.

Fight Night is October 1, 2005 on HBO PPV.

Whooo, excellent! Where’d that comment go, anyway? We need to all keep using that now, I think!

I dunno about “reppin’” — way too New Jersey. ;)
