This weekend, Key West is celebrating Pride in Exile days. This is a brand new festival, based on the Hillsborough County Commission’s vote to abstain from acknowledging gay pride. Both Monroe County and the City of Key West have written resolutions declaring August 12-14 “Hillsborough Pride in Exile” days. The celebration includes a reenactment of the historic vote. Ronda Storms will be played by a drag queen.
The fallout continues nearly two months after the start. Key West will get a bump in their economy. And as Michael Hussey notes: It’s damn embarassing when Key West can make fun of us.
