Remember last year when James Wolcott told us that he cheers for hurricanes to do as much damage as possible? It seems his wishes came true, and goes so far to say that Katrina has carried the wrath of judgment against a society that has ignored the common welfare. Hoping for the death of thousands of real people is a hell of a way to make a point. I still think Wolcott’s an assh*le.

Being an ass draws a crowd. Wolcott’s no dummy; he got tons of traffic and exposure from his post last year. So naturally, he’s going to try to catch lightning in a bottle again. That means you can expect him to rehash the same thing every time another hurricane (or earthquake, or bombing) hits.

Eventually, it’ll become the same old same old.

The little jig that Wolcott’s & Co. has done in the wake of the storm has been distasteful at the very least and morbid opportunism at its worst.

Last I checked, Wolcott’s friends have been in charge of New Orleans for quite a while. And what have they done with it? Filled it with crime. Overlooked its scandals and corruption. Delayed taking care of little things like levees and sediment erosion.

If you’re going to blame, blame all the guilty parties. Not just the ones you dislike.
