no such thing as a stupid question

Head Coach Jon Gruden, looking very sharp in a suitcoat for the post game press conference (click on BUFFALO POSTGAME PRESS CONFERENCE, 9/18/05) was asked if he was dressed that way because of a court date (very beginning of the video) Normally, this would be a light, fun comment/question with no ill meaning. But the timing was horrible. Remember, Gruden’s brother Jay got busted for DUI last week. The guy who asked the question has been a writer for the Pewter Report for a long time. But no more. Leo Haggerty has been fired over the incident.

I don’t know Haggerty, but I would guess would be that he didn’t think about the implications before making the query. Of course, it’s not the first time someone got fired for not thinking.

I’ll disagree with you here, Tommy. I think he knew. I think he thought he was being funny. But, I could be wrong.

My GOD, who cares that much? The only way a guy should lose his job over comments like that would be if Gruden had a family member who was a victim of a crime.

Remember, his brother wasn’t a victim, just irresponsible, and the way our laws treat DUIs with a slap on the wrist anyway, it’s unlikely his brother would see anything above a fine or license suspension

in short, why fire the guy over it? is pewter report afraid of making Johnny Boy cry?

Jon Gruden is surrounded by “bad boys” who were breaking the law. Perhaps this was not the most intelligent comment, but it does not warrant being fired. Your in the public domain Jon, deal with it.
