back to the future

Those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it.

I’ve told you about the flip-flop of traffic in Ybor City. Now we’ll look at another law changes at the drop of a hat.

Once again, it is illegal to pump gas in your car without paying first. Mandatory prepay cuts down on drive-offs. Reduced drive-offs mean police can focus on other areas, saving taxpayer money.

This law was on the books once before. But revenue dropped at some stations, so businesses asked for a reversal, which was granted. I can understand the business side. When I prepay with cash, I don’t want to walk up to the store twice, so I’m only gonna get what I am certain will fit. If I were paying afterward, I’d fill it up. Hence the lower revenues.

But once people get used to paying $3/gallon, the businesses will ask for the law to be changed again, and the BOCC will gladly ask ‘em if they’d like some fries with that.

Hey, I have no problem with the BOCC changing the laws. After all, that’s what they are supposed to do. But to keep making the same changes over and over again is simply absurd. Make a decision and stick with it.

They should leave the law as it is now. Although prepay is a pain for the customer (I’ll have to stop more often!) and costly to certain businesses, I don’t want to pay more so crooks can get free fuel.

I don’t understand why every human being doesn’t pay for gas with a credit card. The amount of hotel points, frequent flyer miles, etc that can be acquired through simple everyday use of credit instead of cash is astounding.

And you don’t ever have to deal with a human being, or go inside at all.

Because not every human being has good credit.

On average people spend about $3000-$5000 a year on gas.
At that rate it’ll take 4-7 years to get a coach ticket. Though helpful, you aint gettin’ to Topeka anytime soon.
