As you already know, the 2012 Olympics will not be in Tampa (the frozen four will be). Those games also will not be in New York, mostly because the NY Jets did not get a new stadium. In fact New York won’t even get to host the 2010 Super Bowl there either. That game will now be played in Miami.
Currently, New Orleans has hosted the Super Bowl the most times at eight. Miami has hosted it seven times. But in addition to 2010, South Florida won the game for 2007 - passing New Orleans with a ninth Supergame. That hurricane business really screwed up New Orleans, who will not be able to host the Super Bowl for the foreseeable future. Even next year’s Sugar Bowl will not be in New Orleans (moved to Atlanta).
This year’s Super Bowl will be in Detroit, their second. Tampa’s fourth, Super Bowl XLIII will be here in 2009.

IIRC, giving Miami the 2010 game means that Florida will now be the state to host the most Super Bowls. Go us.

FYI, a slight clarification: The Jets did get their stadium, but not in Manhattan: They get to continue sharing the Meadowlands with the Giants. (At least they won’t have to play in a stadium named after another team anymore.)
Upshot, of course, is that the New York area still doesn’t get to host the Olympics for a while.
