diploma factory
Jeb Bush was patting his A+ Plan For Education on the back today over news that state high school graduation rates have risen nearly 12 percent since 1998. Locally, Hillsborough trumped the national average by 8 percent.
So we’re churning out diplomas with sweatshop efficiency. That’s great news for graduates with dreams of a future career in taking the FCAT. Whether or not graduates are better prepared for college and the real world remains to be seen. Considering the focus on avoiding “excess hours” and shortening time-to-degree rates, I guess they’ll be fine. Expand your mind, but not too much.
