for everyone to see

The Tampa Tribune looks at some of the dynamics of putting your personal information online. As I mentioned to the reporter who called, anything you put on a webspace is available for anyone to call attention to it.

The key is not that only 20 people read your blog. It depends on which 20 people. And in the case of any newsworthy event, you can be googled. And the nature of the internet allows increased attention to grow incredibly fast.

Great comments in the article Tommy. As a fellow blogger, I am amazed at what my sitemeter tells me about my visitors. The googled items that I am related to.

I found my little blog at the edge of controversy when Pamela Anderson was roasted. I just commented how I felt it was degrading to her, in 3 hours I had 78 unique hits, plus gobs of comments that I had remove before the fear of the FCC for the profanity.

I love to write and I thought at first blogging would be a great outlet, but I have found myself NOT posting or bringing up things and making my blog very generic. I am going to rethink that after the first of the year!

Happy New Year to Tampa’s best Blog!

I have found myself posting things on my blogs which I later regret. I just go back and take them down. Sure, they will be available in a casche for some time, and I’m sure are stored permanently somewhere. It does make me censor myself now. Just how much of my personal life do I want to share?

This started as a topic about a troubled young man and now has implications for us all. While I don’t think I’ve said anything damaging to myself or my family – who really knows? Is it better to be generic instead of exposed? I’m not afraid of my words being used against me – but there are a lot of whack jobs out there and we should all be careful, I suppose.

Still. Who wants to live in fear all the time – afraid to speak our mind because of what “might” happen???
