just the beginning

It’s not even January yet, and many political campaigns are heating up. Over the next few weeks, we’re going to take a quick look at each race for the 2006 elections. We’ll start today with the race for Florida Governor.

Jeb! has had his run, and there are a handful of candidates that are aiming to take his place.

Democratic state Sen. Rod Smith announced plans to run for governor last January. Democratic U.S. Rep. Jim Davis entered the race days later. In May, Attorney General Charlie Crist and Chief Financial Officer Tom Gallagher jumped into the Republican primary.

Just wanted to record their campaign websites here for future use. We’ll be looking at each one of these guys as the election draws near. Feel free to leave your thoughts now, though.

Gallagher is not going to win a statewide election. He is probably the best governor of the bunch, but he’s not well known enough and his politics are too far right.

Crist is a good politician, but I doubt he’ll win. Floridians are going to equate him with Jeb! and will probably go for some kind of change.

Rod Smith, a good prosecutor, just isn’t ready for primetime yet. He’s a good guy, but too liberal for Florida right now.

Jim Davis, my current Rep in DC, is the most polished of this group of four. He’s in the middle on most issues and will win the general election if he can get through the primary. He’ll pull libertarians to his side off the Republican ticket.

I don’t equate Crist with Jeb! in the least. I’m a registered democrat and I’ve been more won over with Crist than with Smith or Davis.

Gallagher is the anti-thesis of good. He’s running on the Neo-con ticket…
