riverview blues
Local blues fans are very familiar with the Damon Fowler Group. Guitarist Damon Fowler from Riverview has been playing local venues since he was 14 years old to well-deserved critical acclaim.
Unfortunately, Damon was in a car accident last month. He got banged up pretty badly. Some scheduled shows were cancelled, but Eddie Wright, another excellent local blues player, has been filling in for Damon.
Thankfully, Damon has been feeling better, and is on the road to recovery. But as you might imagine, he has run up quite a bill in medical expenses. And even though he’s not yet able to do much activity, the collectors are calling.
As I am acutely aware, in the world of local musicians, there ain’t much money to go around. Any lost gig is lost money. In addition, the health care plans offered to “Guys And Girls That Play Music For Basically Tips,” well, it’s the same healthcare plan used by any number of local artists. Namely, it’s the “If Something Happens, We’ll Have To Throw A Benefit” health plan.
Here’s where you come in. Go to Skipper’s Smokehouse this Sunday. Pay the $10, and spend a few hours listening to more great local musicians who will DONATE PROCEEDS to help out a friend in need. Damon will show up if he’s able.
Great music and a worthy cause - you can’t beat that.
Thanks.
