you have no control

When the “up” or “down” indicator is already lit, I know the elevator is coming. Pressing the button again is not going to make it come any faster. Just like banging the “door close” button over and over, it is an exercise in futility. But that doesn’t stop people from pressing the damn things five or six times.

I’ve seen people mash the “To Walk Across…” buttons multiple times too. Found at crosswalks to get to the other side, these buttons are connected to the traffic signals and allows one to safely go the way of the chicken. I’d laugh at the button-mashers too, thinking that once is enough – you got your message across.

Turns out even once is one too many. Not only is the button unnecessary, it is completely useless. So now I feel like a fool for even calmly walking up to the crosswalk buttons and pushing once – the light never hurried for me.

But when you think about it a little more, does it even matter?

…then perhaps we all have OCD?…Merck would be proud. I think at least the city should have an additional light that flickers below the street lamp (like the white ones you see flickering on top of school buses or at crazy intersections). If the button is pressed an intense light shall come on, flickering, signifying that people still use crosswalks these days. OR it could be a water balloon launcher , aye the fun in that!

“mash the button?” … I thought that was strictly a South Carolina-ism …

Now, if you start suggesting we “cut the light on” .. I’ll for sure trace you back to the Upstate .. :-)
