i got your tampa history right here

Late yesterday, Sticks of Fire finalized an agreement to publish a daily history record supplied by the Tampa Bay History Center. You may have seen the first one this morning.

For two years, the Tampa Tribune ran the “This Day In Tampa History” feature, but decided that as of January 1, 2006, the feature was no longer needed in their newspaper. Researcher Travis Puterbaugh contacted me, and asked if we had room here in the Sticks. Being a great fan of local history, it was like asking the Silly Rabbit if he wanted some Trix!

Anyway, I’m very proud to add this feature to Sticks of Fire. I know I like hearing this stuff, and it is my hope you get some enjoyment out of the neat tidbits Travis and the Tampa Bay History Center comes up with.

By the way, if you would like to know more about local history check out the TBHC website. They even have mp3 audio files about various moments in our existence.

And please go visit the TBHC location downtown. It’s awesome and they are great folks who put an amazing amount of work in there.
