tbt* going daily
When tbt* first started, the online website matched the weekly printed edition. If you were looking for any story that broke from Thursday to Tuesday, you were out of luck. Lately, though, there are a number of stories that appear throughout the week that had not made it in the paper. All of that is about to change.
Beginning Monday, March 6, tbt* is going to print a daily tabloid. Daily!? They might as well be a blog. Although we’ll likely see the same amount of local news, and seven times the number of stories from the Associated Press and other outside sources.
Since it came out, tbt* took a fair number of advertisers from the Weekly Planet, and likely feel they can keep that momentum going by printing every day. But I’m not sure it will fly. I spoke to a couple random tbt* advertisers who intend on going right back to the Planet at soon as their tbt* contract expires.

Oh if I could be frank about my feelings in a public forum on this whole WP/tbt* thing …
But I can’t.

Ooh, ooh, I can, David! TBT is pretty much shlock laced with wire copy every week and the only hardcore journalism they have ever done (literally) was the story of how the “Pirates” porno DVD was filmed in St. Pete. They can’t match Weekly Planet’s edginess so they try to undercut them with cheap ads. Putting that thing out every day doesn’t serve the public all that well, and it will wind up creating even more litter after those who bother to read it toss it aside.
