50 years ago…

February 16, 1956 – Tampa’s first suburban shopping center, Northgate Plaza, opens on North Florida Avenue at Busch Boulevard.  The shopping center featured 31 stores and hosted an opening day crowd of 35,000 shoppers.

    Don’t know for sure which one was worst for crowds Northgate or Britton Plaza - I was at opening day at both of them and parking was a bear.. Some people thought Northgate was far out of town and wouldn’t make it..
