media law seminar at stetson
The Tampa Law Center at Stetson University College of Law is hosting “Media Law - Privacy, Publicity, & Privilege“ on March 3. The annual conference addresses topics of concern to journalists, media organizations, and the legal profession. The day-long seminar this year will focus on the right of publicity in Florida and the invasion of privacy.
I’ve been invited to speak about blogs and blogging in a break-out session called “Big vs. Blog,” which hopes to highlight the emergence of bloggers and other online journalism. Others on the panel during this session include Rusty Coats - General Manager of TBO.com, Tom Arthur - Staff Writer at the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, and Annette Escobar - Attorney with Astigarraga Davis of Miami. Holland & Knight Attorney Susan Tillotson Bunch will moderate.
Although the seminar is intended for those in the media and legal professions, I’m sure you can go if you pay the $219 tuition fee. Attending will qualify you for 7 hours of CLE credits. If you want to go, check the pdf brochure which includes all you need to know.
Since our panel is last on the day-long agenda, (and right before the “Adjournment to Recpetion Area w/Open Bar“). I suspect most attendees will be more concerned with the 4:30 quit time than listening to ”Blogs and how tommy will change the world.” Maybe I’ll put some of that rock ‘n’ roll spin on the presentation. Or, maybe I’ll just be checking my watch too.
Actually, this will be a unique opportunity to discuss this stuff with those in traditional media, and I’m looking forward to it.

The local media have decided you’re are local spokesperson. I’m not surprised. Please do not sound like Glenn Reynolds. The man talks about how the media is wrong about Iraq (he doe not mean when every major paper endorsed the war) and nano technology.

What an amazing opportunity. They couldn’t have picked a better local blogger. I’d be interested in finding out what you talked about and what questions and feedback you received. Please post about it afterward, if you can.

[…] I’ve told you I’m gonna be on a panel to discuss “Big vs. Blog.â€Â Well here’s an interesting coincidence. Jay Rosen’s PressThink introduced their first Blue Plate Special.  They have taken a look at the biggest (in circulation) 100 US newspapers to find “The Best Blogging Newspapers in the U.S.†[…]
