For the second time in less than a month, the St. Petersburg Times shed some light on government officials planning something citizens might not approve. And for the second time, the government backed off its plans.
This morning, tommy related Frank Farkas’ legislative attempt to help developer Grady Pidgen get around state and local laws so that his massive condo development (planned for the old Sod Farm in northern St. Pete) could be built.
But if yesterday’s Times story amounted to turning on the lights, today’s reports on the roaches scattering back into hiding: Farkas has backed out of the plan citing a “lack of local government support” for his actions.
Stories like these are why newspapers and other media are a necessary tool of the people.

For all my Times bashing, there are moments when they get something bang-on right. This is one of those moments. Great work!

I wonder how tbt* would cover it. Probably in the “Mike Brady is Gay” column or something. I mean, if it isn’t porno being shot on the pier, then they could care less.

I don’t get all the TBT bashing here. It’s an entertainment tab … a supplement to the Times. It doesn’t pretend to be more than it is (like the Weakly Planet). I think it does a great job covering entertainment around tampa bay. And it’s written with a much lighter, fun tone. What’s wrong with that?
