February 25, 1921 – The Gandy Bridge Company, founded by George S. Gandy, announces plans for the construction of the Gandy Bridge, the first bridge to cross Tampa Bay and connect Tampa and St. Petersburg “by the shortest possible route.”

Today the Trib endorsed a scheme to build a connector road from the New Tampa area to 275 with private investment. The commentary noted George Gandy’s success with the Gandy Bridge.
