st pete times among best newspaper blogs

I’ve told you I’m gonna be on a panel to discuss “Big vs. Blog.”  Well here’s an interesting coincidence.

Jay Rosen’s PressThink introduced their first Blue Plate Special.  They have taken a look at the biggest (in circulation) 100 US newspapers to find “The Best Blogging Newspapers in the U.S.

Six papers are officially listed as among the best, along with two special mentions.  The Houston Chronicle was given the title of Best, and our very own St. Petersburg Times made #4 on the list.  Congrats to the Times, and staff bloggers Janet Keller of Stir Crazy, Rick Gershman of Ill Literate, and Gina Vivinetto and Steve Spears of Stuck in the 80s – all singled out in the article.

Blue Plate Special did not rank all 100 sites, so there is no telling where the old Tampa Tribune ended up.

Since you cannot find the Trib’s own blogs from the front page, and you can’t find other local blogs unless you know where to go, my guess is they ended up pretty low.

Of course, if I keep ripping Tribster, I’ll end up at the top of a different list, and at the bottom of the blog list.

Hat tip to Michael for the info.

In the interest of fairness, those are well-deserved props for the Times blogs, which I do read on occasion when not banging the refresh button on SOF. But it would really be great if those blogs helped sell the actual paper. Loyal subscribers aren’t getting any younger, and it’s still impractical to take a computer to the terlit!

I didn’t make the Tribune’s list of blogs? (I wasn’t aware they had one.) That’s surprising. I have written about them here. Let us not forget the fine journalists as Tom McEwen, Edwin Roberts and Brad Smith. These men understand the meaning of transparency.

The Tampa Tribune - Shit. Printed Daily.
