It seems like just last week we were hearing about Cowhead’s apparent success on 98Rock. My how sometimes things change quickly.
The Tampa Bay Business Journal reports that Cowhead is gone! Cowhead’s website says he will not appear at the Bennigan’s gig on St. Patricks Day, but the radio station will be there, and the proceeds go to charity, so you should still show up. Here’s the Cowhead show myspace. And Cowhead’s personal myspace page. Wikipedia is already updated somewhat.
There ARE rumors flying about who complained to the FCC, and what the complaint was about, but no one is talking… yet. We’ll stay on it.
UPDATE 6:20pm: It would seem the Tampa Bay Business Journal link to the story has gone dead. We’ll try to find you another source for verification…
UPDATE 10:39pm: The TBBJ story is back. Thanks, bubba!

Several complaints were made about some of his comments regarding the recent Tampa’s Top Twenty Bachelor/Bachelorette auction for Dress for Success. They were pretty insulting.

nobody cares about complaints unless they’re made to the FCC and 98 rock being up for license renewal could loose their license from the FCC if they’re a “three time” offender.

Looks like those business journal folks are busy. They updated the story again to say that the FCC reports are not true. It was an “internal matter.”

Don’t believe the company BS for a second. There’s no other reason to fire someone at ClearChannel these days. With so many assets dependent on FCC licensure, ClearChannel *HAS* suck them off and swallow.

Bought myself a Sirius radio this week. It’s awesome. I’m starting to wonder if the FCC is getting payouts from satellite to sabotage ClearChannel and drive listeners to them.
Now where’s that tinfoil hat?

Well, if you’re FCC license is about to be threatened, which it seems it would be in this three strikes thing, then you are going to become very proactive to protect it, including eliminating a problem before the FCC comes knocking.
Just like if you’re “anonymous” and one point away from losing your license because of all the speeding through school zones. If you look at your speedometer and see you’re speeding, you’re going to slow down before a cop pulls you over and punishes you.
So, I can see that.

i’ve had a sirius for about 6 months now and it still sometimes shocks me when they drop the f-bomb on OutQ Radio.
Technology will irrelevant the FCC. With either satellite or internet/IP-based radio. And Clear Channel’s business model will be a distant memory.

Sorry that should read “technology will irrelevate the FCC” I spilled coffee on my keyboard this morning and some of my keys are still sticking.

The real enemy here is the FCC. We live in an oppressive society. This is supposed to be a “free” country, and “the people” are supposed to own the airwaves, but if one person complains about a particular show’s content, they can get the on-air personality fired, and possibly put the station out of business.
Everyone complains, but no one does anything about it. If everyone that posted a message here, or on Cowhead’s myspace blog, wrote their Congressmen instead and demanded some changes to the way the FCC rides rough shot over radio stations, then things would begin to turn around.
The time for complaining is over! The time for action is here!!!
