I'm going to go through the list on the link he provided and post who the hate groups are on my blog this afternoon in Jacksonville. Jefferson once said any solution to a free speech issue is easy. More free speech. The more these people are shown without comment the more they kill themselves. We don't really need to say much. I agree with Jefferson. If the Klan wants to march - - let them. The more people see what morons they are in a public forum the more they will be marginalized. I shiver to think they are around but it's part of the price for living in a free society. There's a line in Rob Reiner's "The American President" that should be posted in every civics classroom [in any are left] in America. "Democracy isn't easy. And what is Democracy? It's standing on a street corner listening to some guy yell at the top of his voice everything you are against and not go over and punch him in the face." That's Democracy. And, btw, you can't enforce that at the point of a guy [i.e. Iraq]. That has to come from within a society. That's part of what makes us exclusionary. That's part of what makes us who we are. It isn't Democracy 101 here. It's calculus. And it's very hard. And, as the recent White House occupant proves to us everyday its very difficult to hold on to. Wow. I just fleshed out a major post this afternoon on my blog at Truman's Conscience just responding to this. Anyway, I'll have more to say there. However, we have this little thing in the United States called freedom of speech that really restricts us from convincing them they are wrong any more than they can defend that they are right. The best we can do is promote acceptance for everyone and hope that we are in the majority. In comparison to other nations, I would say that we have it pretty good when it comes to racial/religious persecution. I agree, hate is not acceptable. Reminds me of the time I saw some jackass wearing a swastika inside a Publix store and wanted to call him out on it, but figured that wasn't the best time or place. Next time I won't be so hesitant. There are more of us than them, so why don't we step up? This is one of those things we don’t like to think about or acknowledge, yet it’s all around us and it’s up to us to stop it.
