friends of kiley gardens

When I got home from Kiley Park the other day, I surfed on over to the Friends of Kiley Gardens website to see what they thought about all this. I would describe the tone of the site and the related passage as “passionate” with a hint of self righteousness. From the Friends of Kiley Gardens press release:

…an insult to the citizens of Tampa and to its design heritage…

…10’s of thousands of dollars was lost…

…trees were chainsawed down and turned into mulch…

It goes on for while in the same manner with lots of words in ALL CAPS. You can almost hear the keyboard being pounded by angry fingers. Regardless of the hyperbole of their account of events, I wonder if they came off in these meetings as preachy as the press release. They do seem to be qualified to help the city with the park, though.

Googling John Howey and Roger Grunke (Directors of FOKG, Inc) turns up dozens of references with the architectural community. Grunke is even on the city’s Barrio Latino Commision. Why isn’t the city listening?

It’s hard to BE taken seriously when YOUR press release awkwarDLY alternates in and OUT of CAPS. Hopefully the city recognizes there are others in the community who care about Kiley Gardens without coming off sounding so Type A.
