The Tampa Housing Authority has ok’d plan to move 1300 people out of Central Park Village.  The US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) still must approve the plan, but current residents are being driven around town to find other housing.

The Central Park Group plans to develop the area.  For more on the relocation part of the plan, check out CPG’s 43 page relocation plan (pdf).

I worked really hard on the Neighborhood Plan for Tampa Heights a few years back with the THCA and parts of Ybor wanted in on the action.

Except Central Park. They were holding out for something better.

Well, it took five years, but good for them! Tampa Heights still hasn’t seen half of what was resolved.

(And, no, I’m not mad at gentrification at all. It’s survival of the fittest for our times.)

Speaking of nearby areas, I was in Ybor Heights this week. I could barely get down the street for all the contractors trucks blocking the road. It seems every other house is being renovated for sale.

I should probably know this, and I’m sure I could also look it up, but I’ll be lazy here: Anyone know if anything is in the works for that project on Lake between Florida and Nebraska?

That’s the 1/2 of the THCA’s neighborhood Plan that never got done!

I’m so glad to see this project finally getting underway. (At least I can hope it is, it would not be cool if they moved everyone out and then dropped the ball) This is the one project downtown that actually has a hope to bring in affordable housing. Although it is kind of a new concept having public housing mixed in with normal housing. I hope it works, and creates a diverse and integrated community out of the ashes of a formerly segregated and opressed one.

I Think The Tampa Housing Authority Need To Update The Public Housing, because the WHOLE Thing is BULLSHIT! The Housing Authority should have been upgraded the Public Housing, if they feel SO CONCERNED about the Public Housing! In when is the the Mayor So Concern bout the African American of Tampa? The Only thing The City want is more money Damned the poor! they just all behind MONEY and MOVING The poor out the City!

    This will never happen.
