May 3, 1951 – The Tampa Junior Chamber of Commerce votes to endorse a move by the Greater Palma Ceia Civic Association to annex south Tampa neighborhood Palma Ceia to the city. Bill Segars, president of the Palma Ceia organization and leader in the movement to come into the city, said that the only opposition to the campaign appeared to be “selfish interests.”

“Selfish interests”? Some things never change in Palma Ceia! How about that dog park just off MacDill that Thurston & Lovie didn’t want in their ‘hood.
