tampafilmfanThe Tampa Bay Business Journal reports that Cypress Gardens Adventure Park will serve as a backdrop to a movie being filmed there on May 18. The Journal article states:
while the Winter Haven attraction is not naming the film, or its ‘well-known’ lead actor and Oscar-winning actress, a March report describing the film Grace is Gone in the trade publication Variety matches the description in the Cypress Gardens release.
From the article in Variety:
Grace is Gone deals with a family’s struggle to cope with the death of a family member in the war in Iraq and stars John Cusack and Marisa Tomei.
According to the Journal, “other online sources say the film is planning to shoot some scenes in Tampa as well, but that has not been confirmed.”
I put on my Nancy Drew hat and started sleuthin’ to see what I could discover:
- The Tampa Bay Film Commission website posted a casting call for Grace is Gone on April 27.
- The Denver Sun reported in March that John Cusack is producing and starring in an indie film called Grace is Gone.
- The Model Placement Center website posted a casting call on their website.
- The Orlando Sentinel’s blog had a post yesterday about filming at Cypress Gardens.
As they say on the TV show MythBusters: I’m calling this one confirmed.
