germany steps down
May 16, 1966 – Circuit Judge John F. Germany announces his retirement from the bench in the fall in order to enter private practice. Germany had announced earlier in the year that we would not seek re-election to his judgeship, to which he had been appointed in 1959 by Governor Leroy Collins, and re-elected to in 1960 to a six-year term. In recognition of his lifetime of community service and dedication, the downtown public library was renamed in his honor on November 1, 1999.
