rumsfeld: no more cuts

May 18, 1976 – Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, in Tampa to chair a military conference at MacDill Air Force Base, tells reporters that the Defense Department has no plans to further cut back military bases during the year. Rumsfeld, along with the Joint Chiefs of Staff and other military advisors, including Gen. Alexander Haig, Jr., met at MacDill following his press conference at the Chamber of Commerce. Rumsfeld refused to detail the nature of the meeting, saying only that the matters discussed would be classified.
