May 19, 1926 – Operation by the Seaboard Air Line Railway of a new train to run between New York and Florida’s west coast called “The Southerner” is announced. The trip both ways would be made on a one-night schedule and run direct from New York to Tampa. “The Southerner” was added due to an increase in visitors to the area.
