union strikes tribune
June 1, 1906 – Members of the Tampa Typographical Union, “without any previous notice or any previous statement of grievance,” go on strike rather than arrive at work at the Tampa Tribune building. The dispute centered on the municipal election, in which the Tribune supported Frank Bowyer and the workers supported William Frecker, a controversial person in early 20th century Tampa politics. Union members returned to work and Frecker won the election.
