roppongi’s ace

With the Rubber City Rebels and the Hat Trick Heroes, the third band in the fantastic lineup next Friday go by the name of Rappongi’s Ace.  Alex Spoto and Max Norton are the duo behind the name.

Alex grew up a classical violinist. Max taught himself how to play rock ‘n’ roll saxophone. It didn’t take long for them to realize that a violin/saxophone duo wasn’t quite the way to go. So Max took up the drum while Alex learned guitar. They say they are the “most unique two-piece band on the east side of the Hillsborough River.”

Andrea of Sonic Deli Records says “I’m absolutely floored - this is some serious talent here! I love the sound, the tracks, musicianship and vocals – you rock! A duo comprised of two [17] year olds?!? Can only imagine what great things you’ll accomplish in the years to come.”

If you’re not convinced yet, give a listen to “Can’t Take It With You.”

In an email, Max says: “We know [the Rubber City Rebels] are from Akron, Ohio, as are one of my favorite bands, Devo, and The Black Keys, from whom Alex and I have learned that the duo thing can work. Our style is more vintage and funky than the RCR and HTH, but that won’t stop us from making this show the best ever. We look forward to playing on June 9th with both of them and we insist that everyone bring their dancing shoes for our set! It’s all about having fun.”

You can find out more about them on Roppongi’s Ace – the website,  or on Roppongi’s Ace – the myspace.  Then go buy the tickets!

By the way, a bunch of great people responsible for keeping Sticks of Fire somewhat relevant will also be at the concert. Come meet FilmFan Lisa, Brett, Wendy, Kate, Joel, Jason (formerly known as EditEngine) and Skippy.  Plans are not yet complete, and others may yet join us, including the wonderful Wifey!  I have met many of these writers, and look forward to introducing all of them to you next Friday.

NOTE to the contributors here:  If I’ve left anyone off the list, or if you are on the list, and can no longer make it, please leave a comment or send an email.

I’ve heard great reviews about these kids. I hear they put on quite the live show and people keep wanting more after.
