Old tank, built in 1975:  $1,500

Upgrading engine, steering, lights, night vision:  $300,000

Gasoline to drive for 10 miles:  $90

New, badass gimmick for the Gasparilla Parade:  Priceless.

Tampa Police just unveiled their new amphibious vehicle/tank.  Of course, all the local media knows we love our monster trucks, so they were tripping all over each other to get you the photos and video

I would be willing to bet this vehicle will get more use in parades than in official police work.

Well that would actually be a good thing if it isn’t needed.

It would be fun to use on a traffic stop though.

They used one of these in Die Hard.

Yeah but I took it out with a rocket, I think you can buy one of those on Broadway now.

Nice to know TPD now has a tank to support the $500,000 boat they bought a few years ago.

Call it the Sept. 11 economy.

This looks like sumpin’ they got from the old A.A.Fair “Get it For You Wholesale” place that was on lower Franklin Street many years ago.

RE Gax’s post: “Send in the Car…. Send in the Car…”

Well, the TPD will need this (maybe — hopefully not) in the event we do get the RNC just for the police/facist intimidation factor :p

I am not sure how useful it would be in a crowd. They won’t risk running over somebody, they might keep it on hand but out of camera sight I’ll bet.

I think the City needs this equipment for the Republican Convention. We shot pictures of many of their toys at the Neighborhood fair. Yu can see them here. http://www.tampagold.com/neighborhoodexpo.html

Tracked armored personnel carrier from the late 1950s yes, tank no. See Global Security and FAS descriptions or do a Google search. Would afford more protection to US soldiers than the Hummers now in use.

    “Hit it AGAIN!”
