or a homeless center

More on the Armory:  In an odd last minute “friendly amendment” the Business Journal reports Ronda Storms asked that the City donate the Armory for use as a homeless intake center.  She cited the Homeless Coalition’s request for $4 million for a facility in her amendment.  Kathy Castor said Storm’s suggestion was “mostly tongue-in-cheek”

“Commissioner Storms was sending a message to the city. She has difficult relations with the city of Tampa and looks for an opportunity like this to send this type of message. It was not based upon any research.”

I am not sure how the Homeless Coalition would be expected to provide facilites for the National Guard troops elsewhere which is a requirement of the proposal but I am sure Ronda was just trying to be helpful.

We have been talking about the Armory for over a year. As the gateway from the Interstate to SOHO and Hyde Park, the idea of a homeless shelter is pretty absurd. We called for the Armory to be used as temporary housing for Katrina victims and received support from at least one City Council member, but the synergy was not there for it to happen. Our analysis at SOHOTAMPA.COM can be found here http://www.sohotampa.com/on%20the%20street.htm BUT probably the most exciting plan submitted came from Tampa Digital Studios in combination with DeBartolo Development and others for a significant television and film studio. They already have a website up showing what is planned you can visit it here http://www.armorystudios.com/

Perhaps Ronda could do us newcomers a favor. We don’t always recognize her on sight and thus sometimes confuse her for just another big-haired woman of a certain age. An “I hate Tampa” T-shirt would be good campaign attire. It could serve as sad commentary, or warning, to most while appealing to her base.

The victim mentality is her stock-in-trade. Now she can say that tried to get a homeless center for Tampa but was rebuffed by godless media heathens (and of course, the media has ruined Ronda’s life several times over, you will recall).

Wonder how she would react if someone proposed putting a homeless shelter in HER district? (She probably won’t care once she’s elected to the State House.)

  5. John Says:

She’s not running for State House. She’s running for Senate.
