south tampa horse racing
June 27, 1931 – A state charter to open a track to hold horse races is granted to a group of local investors. The Gulf Coast Racing Association planned to build the track on the north side of Gandy Boulevard between Manhattan Avenue and Vera Avenue (now Dale Mabry Highway). The track was never constructed and a shopping center currently occupies the proposed track site.
