July 23, 1936 – An airplane, forced down by motor trouble, crashes onto a moonshine still hidden among the mangrove bushes of a tiny island at the mouth of Palm River. The plane suffers extensive damage but neither of its occupants is injured. Gliding across the shoreline, the pilot, Bert Naylor, brought the plane down on the mangrove island about 75 feet from shore, landing smack on the still. Naylor noted that there were nearly 25 barrels of whiskey mash in the vicinity of the still.
