bar fight at channelside

A couple of Channelside businesses are having a little spat.  It seems that the dinner and a drink set doesn’t want the likes of a drinks-only neighbor. Let’s forget the fact that part of that dinner set (Howl at the Moon) doesn’t serve food. Are Banana Joes and Slingshots really attracting the “wrong kind of crowd” for Stumps and Tinatapas? Or are the Velvet Room and Margarita Mama’s just taking business away from Splittsville and Howl at the Moon?

Where does the movie theater stand on this issue? How about White House Gear?  And the Hooter girls are awful quiet too. Also, why aren’t these guys paying me for linking to their businesses?

Anyway, the question for these business owners should be: What will help draw more people that will spend money? When considering all of the above, I think TBT’s Susan Thurston nails it: Shut up, fix the parking and advertise.

Have a nice weekend.

And tell Margarita Mama’s to get some real food that has some flavor to it in there. I met the manager and she said they were changing the menu to something spicier, but we haven’t seen it yet. I like going there to hear our friend Jeremy (http://www.basicrockoutfit.com) play, but I want some decent food too!!!!

Channelside - When you want the safest good time possible!

How threatened can they really feel when every club has a cop at the door?

whenever tampa threatens to evolve into something livelier (see ybor, noise restrictions), the self-sabotagers come out and propose ways to destroy the vibe. channelside is no great shakes, but it has been drawing crowds for quite awhile now, albeit just the same richer white kids who used to throng ybor and who now just get drunk in joints like splitsville. what the attraction is, i cant say i see. its easier and cooler all around to go to ybor than to deal with the lack of parking in channelside. one hopes the clubs of channelside can all learn to play nice. its clear the place is not going to become a disney park, so let the young boozers have their fun. adults will mainly stay home and watch tv, regardless.

If the city wants Channelside to be the “family/tourist” spot, then let Ybor be Ybor.

Don’t try and tone them both down.

Hey, maybe Pam should take some advice from Mayor Rick Baker. Downtown St. Pete is and will always be more happening than Tampa…Bar None..
