digging in
My entire family comes from Ireland and over ten years ago I converted to Judaism - this makes me an authority on the art of arguing. I’ve never understood some people’s aversion to it. While many argue to win, wise men and women argue to learn.
What have we learned from the prolonged argument between Senator Rod Smith and US Representative Jim Davis, both running for the Democratic nomination for governor? It’s no secret, as the Tampa Tribune recently reported, that I support Jim Davis. However, as a lifelong Democratic activist, I wonder about heated primary battles. Heads spin over endorsements while each candidate promises to be his party’s salvation. Candidates desperately need money and a divided party leads to divided resources.
The Republicans are fighting it out amongst themselves as well. In the end, Republicans always have more resources while my party for the people is left to make do with less. Sometimes I fear that a State Senator, with little or no name recognition outside Tallahassee, attempting to drag down an honorable US Representative will deplete dollars better spent fighting Charlie Crist.
Or perhaps this fight will guarantee more attention and, as a result, better voter turnout on September 5th. Either way, we’ll learn something. Won’t we?

Oh don’t get too down on Smith this early. I would give him a better chance of winning statewide than Davis. And remember nobody outside of parts of Tampa knew Davis.

I’m backing Davis all the way. Either would be better than the insanity of Crist being governor. I sure do hope there are a lot of swing voters and proportionally higher Dem turnout in the finals… The polls are saying the GOP will win.

Nobody wants to argue with Davis b/c they’re afraid they might fall asleep.
