August 17, 1936 – Work begins on the repaving and expansion of Howard Avenue, from Grand Central Avenue (present-day Kennedy Boulevard) and Bayshore Boulevard. The work, which expanded Howard from twenty-four feet to thirty feet wide, employed 100 men through the Works Progress Administration.
